So, I landed my role at Refract, and then flew from Taipei to Albania because River Kenna recommended visiting him in Tirana.
I stayed there a month and only met up with him once because I was socially anxious as hell (you know me), but I also got to meet Michael Ashcroft and Alexandria Unknown Surname, and I also just really enjoyed my solitary time for a month, HUGELY enjoying the temperate Mediterranean autumn, eating at cheap restaurants, working at a coworking space, going to the gym⦠it was honestly really awesome.
I mostly:
- Ate food (really nice to have Italian/Greek-type food after being in Asia for ~6 months)
- Worked on Job - Refract stuff from my coworking space
- Listened to comedy podcats (Review Revue, to this day I am obsessed with Geoffrey James from Headgum)
- Walked around
It was awesome.
I made 0 friends and basically didnβt talk to any IRL, but it was a very nice chill month
Thereβs a gorgeous park where you can see the mountains
The weather was a profound joy after Asia, holy shit. It was autumn, low humidity, so lovely
The food was kinda mid sometimes, but nice & cheap
Pizza place near me had 10/10 pizza, really really really good like 0 notes at all just perfect

Great coffee, cafes everywhere
Tirana is a fairly ugly city and smalls like car exhaust and cigarettes, but the weather is gorgeous and itβs cheap
Anchovies + capers = my favourite pizza
I started doing 48 hour fasts and then would go to this really amazing restaurant and order a huge amount of great stuff
