• MR was coined (I think?) by Dr Bruce Ecker, who came up with Coherence Therapy
    • There’s a really good lecture by him on youtube about it
    • He talks about how things like CBT lead to incremental change where you leave the limiting belief/habit in place, and try to install a new one to counteract it. Vs with memory reconsolidation, you update the limiting belief, and boom, it’s updated, no need to try to install a new behaviour, you just update. See the time-series graphs in the diagram below
  • See Kaj’s book summary here
  • See Scott Alexander’s Mental Mountains, where he shouts out the above as a more worth link
  • Unlocking the Emotional Brain
  • Coherence Therapy and Bruce Ecker are big names here
  • See also Lefkoe Belief Updating as an efficient way to do this
  • Coherence Therapy is also an efficient way to do this. IFS probably works by this mechanism too

Visual notes

  • All of these are made by me from a lecture by Bruce Ecker on youtube which I can’t access right now because I block youtube about from 30 mins a day…

  • Sorry about this diagram lol, what a mess πŸ‘‡
