  • Clearly, I don’t currently want to explain this stuff, and really I never have
  • I half-heartedly launched consensus-ism coaching back in June of 2024 (Launching consensus-ism coaching! (2024-06-06)), had one client who was excited about it, but I wasn’t that excited to talk about it
  • However, I do find myself talking about some of it with people, even if I have no current desire to try and explain it such that it clicks with people (for reasons that I’ll explore)

Why I care

  • The shit is really cool - I was literally explained into a ~stream-entry state which made (a huge chunk of) my social anxiety go away. I had a vivid non-dual experience, experienced something like “the ground of being”, layer 1 of experience (phenomenology) with the level 2 thinking/abstraction stripped away, etc
  • It has made it way easier to do a bunch of stuff, like e.g. I went from very awkward on-camera to totally relaxed on-camera overnight
  • I think it’s been a subtly absolutely profound shift that I can easily take for granted these days. The kind of, “yeah I got to deep okayness, then life carried on, and some of my neuroses returned”, etc

Why I don’t care

It’s… vague and hard to grok?

  • People who try out the coaching find that it’s this like, vague, frustrating, fractal thing that they just don’t quite get, and they bounce off it

It doesn’t provide immediate relief

  • I feel averse to it in part because, for me, it took a lot of calls and a lot of faffing about, bouncing off it, feeling bad for bouncing off it, gradually deepening into it, and then a profound click, 1.5 years after initially starting
  • So, unlike say IFS, where you could do a coaching session with someone and they feel a shift and relief immediately, this feels like this big aversive path that I don’t really feel inclined to put people on

It’s unclear how long it takes

  • As above. How much can we innovate the approach such that it’s understandable faster?
    • I imagine async guides, diagrams etc could help, and pedagogical innovation

It’s unclear how to find people who care

  • (I imagine this is a solved problem actually)

It’s unclear if I can make money from it

  • Ultimately I would like to spend at least some of my time on stuff that will make me money
  • “Explaining people into ~stream entry and reducing ~90% of their suffering” does ultimately seem like something you could absolutely make lots of money from, to be fair. Especially if you found e.g. high-payed people in San Francisco to make some money via a few bounties

Ways to make it more compelling to me

  • Perhaps better marketing could help here, get people more convinced about the validity of the path, so it’s not this vague thing
  • Pedagogy stuff
  • Writing about it! I think if I start by writing about it more here, and perhaps I could make a dedicated website to explaining it, which could be shared with clients along with diagrams etc. I think this would combine my love of “knowledge management” + visual notes + writing
